Ecological heating

Choosing a heating system for your home

Until recently, the choice of a heating system for one’s home was a no-brainer. The vast majority of homeowners opted for traditional central heating systems fueled by coal or wood. In an era of growing environmental awareness, choosing a heating system that is also environmentally friendly is extremely important. Alternative energy sources to traditional fuels, such as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), not only help protect the natural environment but also improve air quality while serving as a highly efficient heating system for the home.

What kind of eco-friendly heating system should you install in your home?

There are many heating systems on the market that allow you to heat your home without harming the environment or polluting the air we breathe every day. Eco-friendly heating sources include:

•    Natural gas boilers
•    Solid fuel boilers (biomass and eco-pea coal)
•    Small-scale photovoltaic systems and solar collectors (work very well for water heating)
•    Electric heating systems
•    Heat pumps (an economical and environmentally friendly solution)

LPG – fuel for those who value convenience

LPG is a fuel that is becoming increasingly popular for heating homes and businesses. People building new homes choose to install such a system for several very important reasons, including:

  • Positive environmental impact. Propane and butane are chemically pure gases that contain no harmful impurities. Furthermore, they emit significantly less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than traditional fuels—this figure is 20% lower than that of heating oil and as much as 50% lower than that of coal
  • High heating efficiency. LPG is a high-calorific fuel—1 kg of gas can produce twice as much heat as hard coal
  • Versatile use. A gas system installed on the property can be used not only to heat the house, but also to heat water and power a gas stove
  • Ease of boiler operation. The LPG gas supply system is maintenance-free. Aside from setting the appropriate temperature, there is no need to interfere with the unit’s operation, as no waste is produced during gas combustion. You only need to remember to have the system inspected as required
  • Fixed fuel price. Those who buy coal must expect price increases even several times a year. LPG costs can remain unchanged for up to 2 years, depending on the contract
  • Automated deliveries. By monitoring gas levels, you can be sure that the LPG tank won’t run out and that a new delivery will arrive on time
  • Compact size. A boiler connected to the gas system takes up little space, so in small single-family homes it can even be located in the garage. Additionally, the fuel is stored outside the building
  • Option to use an underground tank that does not interfere with the garden’s infrastructure

An alternative energy source will help keep every home clean

Solar collectors, electricity, liquefied petroleum gas, and natural gas produce no waste or dust, which in turn helps maintain impeccable cleanliness in every room of the house. Other solid fuels (including coal) do not allow for maintaining a sufficiently high level of cleanliness due to the need for frequent boiler cleaning. Additionally, there is the necessity of storing solid fuel near (or even inside) the boiler room.

The choice of a central heating system for a home must be well-considered, as once a decision is made, it should serve as a long-term solution. Although coal remains one of the cheapest sources of home heating, it has many drawbacks. Alternative fuels and other central heating solutions for buildings often offer higher efficiency, emit significantly fewer harmful substances and CO2 into the atmosphere, and help keep the home much tidier.
