Preparing your gas grill for barbecue season

What should you keep in mind to grill safely?

Cleaning your gas grill before the spring season

The first step in getting your gas grill ready for the upcoming season is to thoroughly clean all its parts. It is recommended that you clean the grill before using it for the first time after a long break, even if it has been protected and covered with a special cover.

A damp microfiber cloth is best for cleaning the outside of the grill, as it effectively removes dust. If there is heavier grime on the grill, you can use special cleaners designed for the material the grill is made of.

After thoroughly cleaning the outside of the grill, you should also clean the inside. Remember that if the grill wasn’t cleaned properly before being stored, its parts may have become covered with fungus or mold, so it’s worth checking carefully to make sure no such microorganisms have appeared. If this turns out to be the case, it’s best to perform pyrolysis—in other words, simply burn out the grill.

Burning off the grill

It is recommended to perform a burn-off after every use, and especially at the end of the grilling season. The entire procedure involves turning all burners to maximum heat and letting the grill burn off for about 30 minutes. After burning off and allowing the grill to cool to a temperature of about 150 degrees Celsius, brush the burners and other interior components of the grill. It is best to use a special brush with steel bristles for this purpose, as they are heat-resistant and leave no residue.

Checking the gas system

Before using the grill for the first time after a long period of inactivity, it is very important to check the gas system for leaks and assess its overall condition. Pay particular attention to the condition of the hose, and check the gas flow to the burners; clean the hose if necessary. A restricted gas flow can be identified by an uneven flame on the burner, difficulty in lighting the grill, and a long warm-up time.

Safe use of a gas cylinder

The key to ensuring the safe use of a gas grill is, of course, selecting a safe gas cylinder and using it properly. It is important to remember that gas mixed with air can cause an explosion, so you must always strictly follow the instructions for using a gas cylinder. It is also extremely important to choose a gas cylinder filled at certified gas filling stations. Of course, you must not forget to connect the cylinder properly to ensure a complete seal.

When choosing gas cylinders for your grill from AmeriGas, you can be sure that you will receive filled cylinders that have all the required safety certifications.

Safe grilling – why choose a gas grill?

Gas grills are becoming an increasingly popular choice due to their ease of use, efficiency, and the speed at which they cook food. A single gas cylinder will last for a dozen or so grilling sessions, depending on the duration and intensity of use, but in most cases, you can count on it lasting longer than a single bag of briquettes or charcoal. A major advantage of this solution is how quickly it heats up, as a gas grill is started with a single button, and the desired temperature can be reached within 3–5 minutes. A gas grill allows for precise temperature control, enabling you to prepare a variety of meals and keep food warm for longer. A gas cylinder lets you enjoy grilling all year round, not just during the warmer months. AmeriGas cylinders allow for cooking even at very low temperatures, which significantly expands the capabilities of a gas grill. A gas grill does not produce smoke, and the food prepared on it does not absorb the smell of charcoal and smoke, which can also affect the nutritional value of the prepared meals.

Getting your gas grill ready for the season – stay safe

A gas grill lets you grill efficiently without having to wait a long time for it to heat up. However, before you start preparing food, make sure your grill is ready for use after the winter. Clean it thoroughly inside and out, and perform pyrolysis if necessary. Most importantly, choose a safe, certified gas cylinder and connect it properly.
